MANILA (UPDATE) - Reelectionist Sen. Sonny Angara drew flak Friday for an online joke amid a water crisis gripping the metro.
Angara, in a tweet, said in jest that it would be difficult to have "sexy time" with a "tabo" (dipper) and even used the hashtag "#showertogether."
The joke, however, did not sit well with some netizens as parts of Metro Manila have been grappling with water shortage for over a week now.
One netizen quipped that it was "tactless" for the lawmaker to poke fun at the water shortage problem.
"I will normally ignore this but this water crisis is no joke. It has affected the way we live our lives so please #pikonnakosatubig," another netizen said.
Another meanwhile asked: "Idaan nalang sa katatawanan ang paghihirap ng ibang tao?"
(You'll just make fun of other people's miseries?)
"Insensitive, inappropriate and unnecessary" was how another netizen described Angara's joke.
Angara, in response to one netizen, said: "Magkasama tayo lahat dito at gagawan natin ng solusyon."
(We're in this together and we'll find a solution.)
As of posting time, Angara's tweet has elicited over 100 responses.
Sought for comment, Angara said he has made suggestions on how to address the water shortage.
"Just because we crack a joke does not mean we do not take this seriously. In fact, we have already made suggestions on how to curb the crisis in both the short term and long term," he told ABS-CBN News.
