MANILA- A traffic aide in Cebu City was meted with a fine for illegally soliciting money from a jeepney driver.
Marilou Alferez of the Land Transportation Office in Cebu City was ordered by the Cebu City Municipal Trial Court to pay a fine of P5,000 for violating the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
The court sentenced Alferez after she entered a "guilty" plea in a hearing last Feb. 20, 2018.
Alferez was charged by the Office of the Ombudsman for collecting P400 as a reduced payment for a traffic violation committed by jeepney driver Socrates Funesto last Aug. 12, 2011.
The P400 payment, which was supposed to be P1,500, was done at the LTO when Funesto was claiming his confiscated driver’s license but no official receipt was given by Alferez.
