ZAMBOANGA CITY – At least five Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed during a clash with government troops in the village of Panglahayan in Patikul, Sulu on Wednesday.
A report from Western Mindanao Command said the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel Marlon Jomalesa, conducted a military operation against the Abu Sayyaf bandits led by Radulan Sahiron and sub-leaders Julie Ekit, Amlon Abtahi and a certain Amah Asam.
Government forces were able to get close to the bandits’ hideout when firefight erupted that resulted to the death of at least 5 members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, according to intel sources.
Six Army soldiers were also wounded in the firefight. Four were brought to the Kuta Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Jolo while the remaining 2 were airlifted to Zamboanga City for further medical attention.
Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr. said artillery and mortar fire from the reinforcing military units targeted the possible exit routes of the bandits. Additional troops from the 32nd Infantry Battalion were deployed to augment soldiers pursuing the bandits.
At least two high-powered firearms were recovered from the hideout.
