Shopping malls in San Juan City will be shut down temporarily beginning on Sunday, March 15, in the wake of the COVID-19 threat.

According to an advisory Saturday, Mayor Francis Zamora has coordinated with Greenhills Shopping Center, Promenade, Theater Mall, and Santolan Town Plaza regarding the indefinite closure.

The closure is part of an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

"During an emergency meeting of the Metro Manila Council at the MMDA earlier today, the mayors of all 17 (local government units) agreed to close the malls in their respective areas and set a curfew for their constituents from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.," the Office of the San Juan Mayor said.

Masses at San Juan churches have also been cancelled. This includes Pinaglabanan Church, Sanctuario de Santo Cristo, Mary the Queen, and Sanctuario de San Jose.

"Everyone is advised to stay in their home and observe social distancing and proper hand-washing," the advisory added.
