MANILA - Otso Diretso senatorial candidate Chel Diokno on Thursday rebuffed President Rodrigo Duterte's latest slur against the opposition ticket by cracking a dad joke on Twitter.

On Wednesday, Duterte again slammed members of the opposition coalition during a sortie in Isabela province, saying they did not accomplish anything and that Diokno was virtually unknown. "Saan ka nakakita dito pangalan nya C-H-E-L Diokno. Ano ba, lalaki, o babae?" the President said.

"Salamat sa plug, Pangulo! C-H-E-L as in 'Wag mainit ulo, Chel ka lang,'" Diokno replied in a tweet, punctuated by a "cool smiley" emoji.

Diokno's "witty" response drew laughs online, with netizens commenting that he was living up to his #WokeLolo monicker.

Otso Diretso candidate Erin Tañada also thanked the President for consistently mentioning opposition bets in his public speeches.

"Thank you PDu30. It is obvious that you do not do your Homework," Tañada said in a tweet.

"As a former Congressman, I am the principal authors of the following laws: Compensation for Martial Law victims, Renewable Energy Law, Universal Health Care, Peoples Survival Fund, among others... pls check records," he said.

Duterte first slammed opposition members earlier this month, saying the slate would "go straight to hell."

Only Moro civic leader Samira Gutoc, the lone female candidate under the opposition banner, was spared from the President's slur due to her gender.

The slate earlier said being picked on by Duterte was a "good sign" as it means that the President now considers them a "threat" in the upcoming midterm elections.
