Four kidnap victims were found abandoned in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte on Monday, the military said.
The Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command, in a statement, said Roger Jung-an, Jomar Maglangit, Jomar Mantangan and Raymond Purisima were held captive by bandits for at least nine days.
They were eventually left behind by their captors following pursuit by law enforcers.
The victims are all residents of Barangay San Vicente in Sirawai and are chainsaw operators and laborers who were abducted near Barangay Panabutan last March 3.
"They were originally five when they were kidnapped. However, one of them was hit in the crossfire during an encounter between our soldiers and their captors last March 7," said Major General Roseller Murillo, commander of the Joint Task Force Zampelan.
Murillo also said the barangay chairman of Libucon and the mayor of Sirawai contacted the soldiers of the 42nd Infantry Battalion for the turnover of the four victims who were found by residents of Barangay Libucon.
"The lawless elements under a certain Jamilon Wahab panicked, aside from becoming weary with the ongoing pursuit operations and left the kidnap victims before they flee," Murillo added.
The victims underwent medical check-up and debriefing.
Authorities are still tracking the kidnappers, according to Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
