SOUTH COTABATO- A 56-year-old farmer was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Purok 1, Barangay Palian in the town of Tupi, South Cotabato on Monday morning, police said.

According to witnesses, the victim identified as Danny Buan was drinking coffee when the gunman approached him and fired his gun.

According to Kwas Alaman, a relative of the victim, they were busy preparing food for the baptism of the victim’s grandchild when they heard four gun shots.

They immediately fled from the crime scene and failed to see the face of the gunman.

After they saw the victim lying in the area, they rushed him to the hospital but he was declared dead.

“Doon man kami sa likod. Hindi namin alam kung ano yung pumutok. Bigla kaming nagtakbo doon. Kaya hindi namin nalaman kung sino yung bumaril, said Alaman.

(We were at the back when we heard the shots. We ran away. We didn't see who shot him.)

They have no idea on the motive behind the incident.

The police recovered four fired shells and a slug from a caliber .45 pistol.

According to police Inspector Bertito Delco, the acting chief of police of Tupi, the incident may be connected to the shooting incident last March 9, where the victim’s nephew, Dominador Malida, a tribal leader and a barangay tanod, was killed.

The police have yet to establish leads on the two shooting incidents.
