MANILA- President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he trusts Cesar Montano as chief operating officer of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).

Duterte said complainants who have a gripe against Montano should file a case.

"File a case, but I trust the guy kaya ko in-appoint yan," he said.

Duterte said Montano does not need the government post.

"It's a matter of destroying yourself with a measly amount. I don't think he will go for that," he said.

Employees of the TPB, an attached agency of the Department of Tourism, have filed a complaint against Montano for supposedly entering questionable contracts and resorting to nepotism.

The complaint listed several alleged misdeeds such as appointing his relatives into positions whose functions are similar to those of incumbent employees, as well as unprofessional behavior.

Montano, however dismissed the complaint as "baseless and untrue," saying no one knows who are the said "TPB employees" and none of them have come forward to present evidence to support their claims.

"The allegations made against the Office of the COO, through a complaint filed anonymously, are baseless and untrue," Montano said in a statement.
