MANILA - State weather bureau PAGASA on Sunday said it may declare the start of the summer season by mid-March, after the cool northeast monsoon or amihan stops prevailing in Luzon.
The amihan is currently bringing cloudy skies and scattered rains in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas, and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon, said PAGASA meteorologist Aldczar Aurelio.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, meanwhile, are experiencing isolated light rains also due to the cool wind from Siberia and China, he said.
"Itong amihan ito ay maaaring huling bugso na ito at inaasahan nating ngayong linggo -- bukas o ngayong Martes -- ay makakaranas na tayo ng mainit na panahon," Aurelio told DZMM.
(This is probably the last gust of the amihan and we expect that starting this week -- on Monday or Tuesday -- we will experience warm weather.)
The easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific, together with the ridge of high pressure area, will then be the dominant weather systems, he added.
