Interior Secretary Ismael Sueño on Saturday urged all sectors to help the government purge the police force of rogue cops.

"We welcome everyone. Simbahan natin very critical sa Oplan Tokhang so we are inviting them . . . Maski sa media you are welcome . . . para transparent," Sueño said in a speech delivered during this year's Philippine National Police Academy alumni homecoming.

He reminded cops, firefighters, and jail officials to ensure that "mass cleaning and internal cleansing" will be continually done to "rid of scalawags within our ranks."

Even if "scalawags" constitute a "minute percentage" of the police force, they still taint the image of good and dependable cops, Sueño said.

"Serve the people with honor, be disciplined and make excellence your standards. Bring back public's trust towards public institutions," he said.

Sueño's remarks came after the PNP committed to have a stricter screening policy in forming its new anti-drug enforcement unit.

The PNP intensified its internal cleansing after several cops were found to have murdered a Korean businessman inside Camp Crame, the police's headquarters, in January.
