MANILA - A former municipal mayor from Misamis Oriental and her husband are set to face trial before the Sandiganbayan for alleged violations of the anti-graft law.
This after investigation of the Office of the Ombudsman showed that former Jasaan Mayor Grace Jardin and her husband, former municipal administrator Redentor Jardin, used P1.5 million in government funds to “develop their once barren agricultural land” through town projects.
The funds were supposed to be used for the implementation of a demo farm and eco-tourism park projects in 2 barangays that were approved by the municipal council in 2015, the Ombudsman said.
“Respondent-spouses were public officers who had direct financial interest in the contract," the Ombudsman's resolution stated.
The Ombudsman said the couple will be charged with 2 counts of graft.
