MANILA - Mayon Volcano in Albay province emitted steam early Friday as it remained at a moderate level of unrest.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Mayon remains under Alert Level 2. Phivolcs recommended banning entry into the 6-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone around Mayon.

It also urged authorities to implement a 7-kilometer Extended Danger Zone stretching from Anoling and Camalig to Sta. Misericordia and Sto. Domingo towns.

Phivolcs reminds the public that sudden explosions, lava collapses, pyroclastic density currents or PDCs and ashfall can still occur and threaten areas in the upper to middle slopes of Mayon.

Mayon's last volcanic activity was recorded in December 2018. - With a report from Jose Carretero, ABS-CBN News
