COTABATO CITY- Preparations for the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections are almost complete, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday.
Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas said preparations are already 80 percent complete.
"Puspusan kami, 80 percent ready na kami and we started printing the ballots for Mindanao. In [a] few days, matatapos na ang printing sa Mindanao so tuloy tuloy ang paghahanda namin,” he said.
The Comelec earlier announced that the election period is from April 14 until May 21, and candidates can file their certificates of candidacy from April 14 until April 20.
The campaign period will be from May 4 to May 12.
Unlike the 2016 national and local elections, the barangay and SK elections will be manually tallied.
Abas assured that the poll body will be vigilant against attempts at election fraud.
The election chief said public school teachers are the priorities in choosing members of the Board of Election Tellers. He added that the honoraria for members of the board have been increased.
“Ang Board of Election Tellers, ang kanilang honorarium ay dinagdagan natin, ginagawa nating P6,000 para sa chairman at P5,000 para sa members," Abas said.
