MANILA - Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio “should not insult voters” by saying that honesty is not an election issue, senatorial candidates under the Otso Diretso banner said Wednesday.

The president’s daughter, who chairs the Hugpong ng Pagbabago regional slate, earlier told reporters that “honesty should not be an issue now” because “all candidates lie.”

'Wag natin insultuhin ‘yung ating mga botante,” human rights lawyer and Otso Diretso bet Chel Diokno said in a statement.

Duterte-Carpio’s remarks came as HNP-endorsed candidate Imee Marcos continues to evade questions about the legitimacy of her diplomas from the University of the Philippines College of Law and Ivy League school Princeton University.

Marcos earlier said she graduated with a degree in Religion and Politics from the US-based university and as cum laude from UP. Both schools belied her claims.

Meanwhile, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, who is also running under the opposition banner, responded when Duterte-Carpio accused him of lying when he alleged that the long-time presidential aide Bong Go used taxpayers’ money to fund his campaign, .

Alejano belied the Davao City mayor’s accusation, saying his source personally attended the Liga ng mga Barangay event allegedly ladened with Go’s campaign paraphernalia.

It was “irresponsible” of the president’s daughter to label all candidates liars, former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay told ABS-CBN News.

“‘Yung general claim na nagsisinungaling kami is irresponsible on the part of the mayor,” Hilbay said.
