The Diocese of Dumaguete which oversees the pastoral work in Negros Oriental will investigate the case of one of their priests, Father Jose Abellar who was supposedly arrogant during a burial mass in Bacong, Negros Oriental.

In a Facebook post, user Nikki Gonzales narrated how the priest forced those who attended the mass to kneel, including non-Catholics and persons with disabilities. A video of the incident last Saturday has since went viral online, with over 14,000 shares.

Dumaguete Diocese spokesperson Father Nathaniel Gomez said the priest may have been misinterpreted for his words.

Abellar was asked to take a leave from his post as assistant parish priest in St. Augustine of Hippo Parish. Church officials have also asked the public to pray for their priests.

The Vendiola family, the immediate family of the deceased during the burial mass, will not file a formal complaint to the Bishop but is hoping the incident will not happen again.
