BANGUED, Abra - President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday criticized televised political debates among candidates for national post, calling it a money-making exercise.

“’Yung mga TV networks may I remind you… You raked the money but you know if you just give a candidate an hour --- ah a minute and a half rather --- walang masasabi ‘yan, then the intermissions and everything,” Duterte said in a speech during the PDP-Laban campaign rally in Bangued, Abra.

“I hope that the next presidential debates in the coming years would be a more educated one, give all the time to the candidates to expound and talk about the issues, the one to bring to the people. Otherwise, it’s just an exercise of money,” he added.

Duterte led the PDP-Laban rally, and endorsed reelectionist Sen. Koko Pimentel, former PNP chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino, former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, and Maguindanao 2nd District Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu.

The President, meanwhile, slammed anew the Liberal Party-backed Otso Diretso Senate slate.

“Kaya ‘yung opposition mautak man sana but their penchant to be just at the other side, lulubugin mo lang eh. Their victory next year hinges on the way how they attack people and the propensity to paint you in another dimension,” Duterte said.

“Itong mga kandidato na ito, if you… They want to appear white. 'Kami puti, malinis.' So ‘yung kalaban niya pinturahan niya ng itim. You’ll just paint your opponent black and you appear white. Ganun talaga. And sadly, sayang ‘yung utak nila. At ‘yung iba naman walang ginawa,” he added.

“‘Yung Otso Diretso sa impiyerno. [laughter] Tingnan mo nga ang mga kandidato,” Duterte said.

The President criticized each opposition senatorial candidate, aside from fellow Mindanaoan Samira Gutoc.

Among Otso Diretso’s senatorial candidates are former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay.

He got into the wrong company.

Tsk. Tapos mahusay daw. Anong makuha?” he added.

Duterte also campaigned against Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, and belittled Sen. Bam Aquino and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno.

“Si Alejano. Naku. Sila ni Trillanes? 'Yang Magdalo, iwasan talaga ninyo ‘yan,” the President said.

“Bam Aquino, sige lang daldal, wala man ring iniwan na maganda… Hindi ako bilib. Wala. Hanggang diyan lang ‘yan,” he added.

Sino palang maligayahan niyan?” Duterte said.

He also questioned the contributions to the country of former Rep. Erin Tañada and election lawyer Romulo Macalintal.

Walang ginawa,” Duterte said.

While not running for public office, Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Leila de Lima were also at the receiving end of the President’s tirades again.

“Ambisyosa lang at marunong lumusot. Kaya she’s painting everybody in town black so that she will appear a Virgin Mary. Pero high ka, may tape na. What a hypocrisy.

“I would be dishonest to say na nabigyan ‘yan siya ng pera. But nine times Trillanes traveled to America to talk in behalf of the President at walang nangyari. Galit na galit ang China,” he added.

The President also lashed out at former Senator Francisco “Kit” Tatad for claiming in a newspaper column that he recently had a kidney transplant.

Alam mo bakit? Kasi ikaw ay hindi na puwede. You have a diabetes at ikaw ay hindi ka na maka --- tatayuan ng o*** mo,” Duterte said.

“You forgot your role sa martial law. Kakapal ng mukha mo, ikaw ‘yung nagbasa ng Proclamation 1081. He was it. Hanggang ngayon naka-smile ka sa publiko,” he added.

The President also threatened anew to slap Tatad.

[laughter] Totoo lang,” he said.

Pahiram mo ‘yung asawa mo,” Duterte said.
