Body of beheaded German national found in Sulu

(UPDATED) The body of the German national who was beheaded by the Abu Sayyaf group has been found in Indanan municipality, Sulu, Saturday afternoon.

Troops under the Joint Task Force Sulu conducting combat, search and retrieval operations discovered Jurgen Kantner's body at Sitio Talibang, Barangay Buanza, task force commander Col. Cirilito Sobejana said.

Local scene of the crime operatives were instructed to preserve the site for evidence and post-mortem procedure.

The body was moved to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Hospital morgue for documentation prior to transport.

“We will coordinate with the appropriate offices for the disposition of the remains of the victim," said Commander Major General Carlito Galvez, Jr. of the Western  Mindanao Command in a statement on Sunday.

Kantner was abducted from his yacht in waters off the southern Philippines last year and had been held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf prior to his beheading. -- with reports from Jewel Reyes, ABS-CBN News
