MANILA– Reelectionist Sen. JV Ejercito said on Sunday he is in favor of capital punishment for convicted plunderers.
"Dapat lang nang hindi na tularan at huwag nang maulit muli," he said during the "Harapan 2019: The ABS-CBN Senatorial Town Hall Debate."
(It should be so that it won't be repeated._
Ejercito is running under the administration-backed Hugpong ng Pagbabago along with his half-brother, Jinggoy Estrada, who is facing plunder charges.
Estrada, who is out on bail since 2017, is accused of pocketing P183 million in kickbacks from fake projects under the Priority Development Assistance Fund scam.
Their father, former President Joseph Estrada, was found guilty of plunder in 2007 but was pardoned by his successor, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
During the debate, Ejercito also expressed support for term limits on elected officials.
"Kahit magaling, may hangganan din," he said.
(Even the good ones should have limitations.)
"Dapat pagbigyan din natin ang bawat Pilipino," he added.
(We should give each Filipino a chance.)
