Authorities are looking for a barangay chairman in Butuan City after three sachets of shabu were found inside his house Thursday morning.

New Society Village Barangay Chairman Marco Imam was able to escape while elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Caraga Regional Office were searching inside his home.

PDEA operatives found 3 sachets of suspected shabu inside Imam’s house, with an estimated weight of at least 5 to 10 grams. The street value of the drugs is between P50,000 to P100,000.

Caraga Regional Director Gilbert Buenafe said PDEA has been conducting nearly two months of surveillance on Imam and concluded that the official is still selling illegal drugs.

He said PDEA agents were unable to arrest Imam after being distracted by Barangay Kagawad Audrey Cedeño, who was hysterical and insisted that PDEA personnel planted the shabu.

Cedeño will be charged with violation of the Presidential Decree 1829 or Penalizing Obstruction of Apprehension and Prosecution of Criminal Offenders.

PDEA is also filing a warrant of arrest against Imam.
