Sen. Dick Gordon said a multi-million money laundering scheme is being perpetrated by Chinese in the country. The funds are said to be used for illegal drugs and prostitution. Worse, government officials are in cahoots with the perpetrators. Gordon estimated that the scheme is worth around P9.6 billion. Gordon said his Senate Blue Ribbon will hold a hearing on what the government is doing to address the matter

The Senate hearings on the “pastillas” controversy where alleged bribes to personnel of the Bureau of Immigration are being paid of the illegal entry of Chinese workers in the country will continue today. Effects of the virus
The United States and Thailand recorded their first deaths as a result of COVID-19. The coronavirus is spreading some more in South Korea, disrupting operations in factories of companies like Samsung and Hyundai. In the Philippines, some 7000 workers, mostly in the hospitality industry, are in danger of losing their jobs due to the epidemic. Sen. Ed Angara said the labor department should monitor effects of COVID-19 on businesses.

Tamed hostage
Five Senators said they are supporting moves to allow the continued operation of ABS-CBN until 2022. Rep. Lito Atienza said a majority of members of the House of Representatives are in favor of renewing the ABS-CBN franchise. Rep. Edcel Lagman said remedies which are short of a renewal of the network’s franchise make ABS-CBN a “tamed hostage.”
