SULU - Authorities have been scouring this island province for the remains of Jurgen Kantner, the German national who was beheaded by the Abu Sayyaf.
Local officials have been helping, but security concerns are slowing the search, said Captain Jo-ann Petinglay, spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom).
Military offensives against the Abu Sayyaf continued on Wednesday to rescue 31 other captives, she said. The hostages include 25 are foreigners and 6 Filipinos.
Also on Wednesday, an hour-long encounter was reported in one of the barangays of Al-Barka in neighboring Basilan, said Governor Jim Salimman.
The fighting in Basilan displaced some 70 families.
