The Sandiganbayan on Wednesday postponed the scheduled arraignment of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. and daughter, Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Eschavez for graft.

Instead, they will enter their plea on April 11, 2017.

Defense lawyer Charles Michael Puno has asked for the deferment of the arraignment due to a pending motion to quash submitted by Mayor Parojinog, later adopted by his daughter.

The Ozamiz mayor and vice mayor are facing graft charges over an allegedly anomalous contract for a multi-purpose building.

The Parojinogs, who head the city, allegedly awarded the contract for the renovation of Ramiro Gymnasium to Parojinos and Sons Construction company. The firm was said to be owned by the mayor's family, as stated in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.

Both refused to comment on questions posed by reporters after the hearing.

Mayor Parojinog is one of the local government officials named in President Rodrigo Duterte's narco-list. Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Parojino-Eschavez is in a relationship with high-profile Bilibid inmate Herbert Colangco.

Mayor Parojinog has earlier denied any involvement in the illegal drugs trade.
