ROSARIO, Agusan Del Sur - Suspected New People’s Army fighters set fire to a trailer truck along Purok Kawayan, Barangay Sta. Cruz in Rosario, Agusan del Sur on Tuesday afternoon.
Truck driver Jonathan Estrella Jr. said an NPA member stopped them upon reaching the area and ordered them to step out of the truck.
Chief-of-police Inspector Aldrine Camu said the rebels spilled gasoline inside the container van before setting it on fire. The van contained bananas owned by SUMIFRU Banana Plantations.
The rebels also torched the tires of the container van.
SUMIFRU pegged the damages at P3 million.
Authorities believe the rebels retaliated after the company failed to pay revolutionary taxes.
Members of the Philippine Army are now in the area to conduct hot pursuit operations against the rebels.
