MANILA - Seven Filipinos who earlier showed symptoms of the deadly new coronavirus (COVID-19) while under quarantine at New Clark City in Tarlac have tested negative for the disease, a health official said Saturday.
According to Health assistant secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, despite the result, they “are still being managed for their symptoms at a referral hospital.”
Besides the 7, there are two other Filipinos with symptoms who are still waiting for their test results.
The 9 are among hundreds of Filipinos who were repatriated from a cruise ship off Yokohama on Tuesday and placed under quarantine at a government facility in Capas town, Tarlac.
The ship, Diamond Princess, experienced a coronavirus outbreak after some of its approximately 3,000 passengers and 500 crew were infected with the disease.
The Philippines has so far confirmed 3 cases of COVID-19, all tourists from the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the virus outbreak started.
Beijing confirmed a total of 78,824 infections as of Friday with the death toll at 2,788. The disease is also fast-spreading in South Korea and Italy. — Report from Bianca Dava, ABS-CBN News
