President Rodrigo Duterte led the groundbreaking rites for the construction of Christine Villas in Barangay Maria Cristina in Balo-i town, Lanao del Norte on Wednesday.
It is the third project launched by Duterte under the new AFP-PNP housing program through the "design and build" scheme of the National Housing Authority, which will benefit AFP and PNP personnel in Region 10 and nearby provinces.
A thousand units will be built over a 140,000-square-meter lot that is expected to be finished in December 2019.
"More or less ang babayaran ng sundalo is P880,000 so from P950,000 minus P70,000 more or less P880,000 divided by number of years maximum of 25 years so that's very minimal around P5,700 ang monthly amortization ng sundalo at pulis if you compare this sa commercial sa housing projects ang monthly amortization nito is P12,000 to P15,000," said NHA general manager Marcelino Escalada Jr.
Duterte also revealed his plan to lease a part of Fort Bonifacio to make sure soldiers can send their children to school.
"Hindi kailangan maghirap kayo sa pagpapaaral ng mga anak (niyo). We will be leasing a part of the camp tutal 'yung isang ano lang, 'yung iba i-lease, hindi ipagbili, tapos ang kita niyan pupunta sa Armed Forces of the Philippines so malaking pera 'yan, billion," Duterte said.
He also lauded the NHA, saying no corruption is happening in the agency.
The NHA is building 9,037 units all over the country under the AFP-PNP housing program.
