MANILA - Former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III refused to divulge to the media what transpired during the closed-door meeting of members of the Liberal Party (LP) , emphasizing that he no longer holds office.

Hounded by reporters outside Cafe Romulo, where the luncheon was held, Aquino said he would leave it to LP President Francis Pangilinan to speak on the party's behalf.

"Pasensya na kayo, meron kaming hierarchy sa party. Party president ang authorized magsalita," he said.

Pressed for his personal opinion, Aquino said he does not like to speak for everybody, "especially because there are particular risks that those who are in office right now will be undergoing."

"I think it's just proper for me, who does not have a current mandate, to defer to those who have a current mandate," he said.

Pangilinan later disclosed that Tuesday's meeting revolved around two major topics--the bill on the re-imposition of death penalty pending at the House of Representatives and if the LP congressmen will formally leave the majority at the Lower House to join the minority.

Aquino said he "agrees with all the positions that were expressed in the meeting."

"However, I have to give due respect naman to our party president to be able to articulate the party's position on all of these matters," he said.
