MANILA - Kabataan party-list Rep. Sarah Elago said Thursday there was no need for President Rodrigo Duterte to choose between the United States and China in pushing for an independent foreign policy.
The lawmaker blasted the statement of the President that the Philippines can either be a territory of the US or a province of China if it cannot fight its own battles.
(We don't have to choose between the US and China. We should only choose the Philippines.)
Bayan Muna party-list Reps. Ferdie Gaite and Eufemia Cullamat echoed Elago's sentiment, recalling how the administration quickly decided to abrogate the country's Visiting Forces Agreement with the United States over the cancellation of Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa’s US visa.
Dela Rosa,” Gaite said.
(We should take a principled position, not the pettiness shown by government in junking the VFA just to get back [at the US] for canceling Sen. Dela Rosa's visa.)
(I hope the Philippines would show it could stand on its own feet because it really is capable of doing so.)
