MANILA - The head of the Philippine Mediation Center Office has stepped down after her appointment by Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno was questioned in the impeachment complaint filed by Larry Gadon, court sources said Tuesday.
Gadon accused Sereno of betraying public trust for appointing Brenda Mendoza as head of Philippine Mediation Center Office without the authority of the Supreme Court en banc.
Sereno argued that the position of a PMCO head was still considered as personnel because the administrative order did not specify ranks of the heads of offices.
The PMCO is an office under the Philippine Judicial Academy. The incumbent chancellor, Adolfo Azucna, declined to comment on who between the two is right.
Azcuna told a House justice panel hearing Tuesday that this is a matter of the court's interpretation and that this issue is still pending before the high court at the moment.
