MANILA -- Senatorial bet Mar Roxas has proposed a way to go about President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs.
During the "Fast Talk" segment of "Harapan 2019: The ABS-CBN Senatorial Town Hall Debate" on Sunday, Roxas was asked to give his take on Duterte's pronouncement that a "harsher" war against drugs is underway.
"Dapat palawakin niya, hindi lang one dimensional na patay nang patay lang," Roxas said, who is running under the opposition ticket Otso Diretso.
He said intelligence funds should be utilized to go after big-time drug personalities.
"Dapat gamitin yung intelligence funds para 'yung mga wholesaler, 'yung mga nagpapasok dito ng kemikal, 'yung mga may-ari, mga nagpapatakbo ng laborary, 'yan ang dapat na tinutugis," he said.
Duterte on Wednesday said his war on drugs will be “harsher in the days to come.”
“I’m putting notice to everybody, I will not allow my country to be destroyed by drugs. I don’t want my country to end up as a failed state,” Duterte said in a speech in Malacañang.
Duterte's drug war has faced widespread criticism as its implementation was allegedly marred with abuses by authorities.
However, the President also accused rights advocates of failing to criticize "drug-lordism, drug dealing and drug pushing."
