Seven civilians were wounded in a clash between commanders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said the firefight was between MILF commanders Haun Sindatok and Datu Adam.

The police and military identified the victims as: Mama Zacaria, Tohame Kader, Gary Sagad, Lala Lakiman, Jenco Akmad, Asad Madkay, and Tems Bas.

They are all residents of Barangay Madia.

Reports said they were immediately brought to Cotabato Regional and Medical Center in Midsayap, North Cotabato.

Residents who yesterday fled before the clash returned to their homes to gather some of their belongings.

A local store owner discovered that some of her products were gone even though they left their store locked last night and sought shelter away from the firefight.

They also saw traces of gunshots on the walls.

The mosque at Barangay Madia was also hit during the firefight.

Some villagers have readied their belongings so they can flee if they hear gunshots again, but as of this posting, the area was still calm after Thursday’s clash.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines earlier said they could not intervene since there is an ongoing ceasefire between the government troops and the MILF.

Cpt. Arvin Encinas, spokesman of the 6th Infantry Division, said they are leaving it to the MILF leadership and the local government unit to resolve the conflict.

Meanwhile, the PNP continues to monitor the evacuees staying in different towns near Barangay Madia.

The MILF has yet to release a statement on the incident.

A clash between two MILF commanders also transpired last week in Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao because of land conflict.
