MANILA - Recalling how she was left out and eventually removed from the cabinet of President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday told government officials not to be overcome by their egos
Robredo, who attended the 2018 Civil Executive Service Leadership Conclave in Mandaluyong City, said it is normal for officials to feel underappreciated, but added that this should not get in the way of their performance.
“Sa trabaho natin sa gobyerno, dapat wala tayong ego,” Robredo told government executives.
Robredo, who was appointed chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), was barred from attending Cabinet meetings in December 2016.
Malacañang cited "irreconcilable and public" differences between Duterte and Robredo in the President's decision to ask her to desist from attending cabinet meetings.
Robredo said that when she was booted out of the President’s inner circle, she just moved on.
“Kung magmumukmok tayo sa isang tabi, sayang ang oras. Kung hindi puwede, eh ‘di maghanap tayo ng ibang paraan,” said Robredo, leader of the opposition Liberal Party.
Robredo told the audience that her office did not sit idly by and instead formed Angat Buhay, a program that partners with private organizations on pro-poor projects.
