MANILA - The Quezon City Council sought a one-week postponement of the Tandang Sora flyover closure to give way to road clearing operations, an official said Thursday.
Quezon City Councilor Ranulfo Ludovica said the decision to seek a postponement was reached after the city council met with officials from barangays that would be affected by the closure: Old Balara, Tandang Sora, Culiat and New Era.
The flyover was set for closure on Saturday, Feb. 23, to give way for the construction of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7).
"Magsa-submit sila ng recommendation and then magkakaroon kami ng ground inspection at clearing ng obstruction. Para bago dumating yung closure ay makita ng mga tao na yung gagamiting alternative roads ay malinis," said Ludovica.
(They will submit their recommendation and we will conduct ground inspection and clearing operations so that motorists who will use alternate roads will find it cleared of obstructions even before the closure.)
Illegal jeepney and tricycle terminals and illegal vendors will be among road obstructions that will be cleared, he said.
The MMDA said in an earlier interview that an elevated U-turn slot would help ease the expected heavy traffic in the area when the closure starts.
