MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte stuck to his prepared speech as he faced a high-profile crowd during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday.

“I’m not into reading speeches but because of the crowd, I have to be prim and proper, not to be casting cuss words and epithets,” Duterte said.

“But really, it’s part of my make-up. I better read a prepared speech. It’s all courteous, it’s very diplomatic, civil.”

This is not the first time Duterte skipped his trademark lengthy, impromptu speech, which is usually peppered with tirades and curses.

During his meet-up with Miss Universe pageant contestants, Duterte also read a short prepared speech as he was told to “behave.”
