The President is due to sign a universal health care bill Wednesday. These are stories making the headlines on ANC:
Universal health care
President Duterte is set to sign the universal health care bill. Senators have assured there is sufficient funding for this major piece of legislation. Sources for the funding include the Pagcor and the PCSO. Health advocates, the Finance and Health departments earlier said the non-passage of higher tobacco tax would endanger the universal health program. Also, what is the impact of the new law on the health industry?
Budget Sec. Ben Diokno will hold his regular “Breakfast with Ben” forum with media at 8:30 a.m. on the “Build, Build, Build” projects. Diokno is due to give updates on these projects.
Guns, goons, elections
On Tuesday’s “Beyond Politics,” PNP Chief Dir. Gen. Oscar Albayalde said they have a watchlist of politicians involved in the use of “guns, goons and gold” that could result in election violence in the coming elections.
Twisting the story
In a forum with journalists in Brussels, PCOO Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco said negative stories on the Duterte administration come from media groups which Danish ambassador Jan Christiansen said were involved in “systematically reporting negative stories on the Philippines.” These groups, Egco said are the CMFR, PCIJ and NUJP. ANC will get more reactions on the trip which is being funded by taxpayers’ money.
Martial law extended
The Supreme Court rules in favor of the third extension of Martial Law. Critics have assailed the decision, saying it could lead to a nationwide declaration.
