MANILA - A former Department of Health consultant faced another libel complaint on Tuesday over his allegations that there were "mafia-like operations" inside the agency.

Dr. Francis Cruz had claimed that some 18 DOH officials, including former Health Secretary Janette Garin, belong to a "mafia" that profited from the government's scrapped P3.5-billion Dengvaxia vaccination program.

DOH Assistant Secretary Lyndon Lee-Suy, one of the officials named, lodged libel raps against Cruz before the Manila Prosecutor's Office.

A similar complaint against Cruz was filed Monday by the director of Philippine Children's Medical Center, Julius Lecciones.

Garin has challenged Cruz to file charges against the alleged DOH mafia while Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said he was open to investigating the issue.
