The University of the Philippines has emerged as the Philippines' most notable university in a list of emerging economies in 2020.
According to the 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings, the state university has risen to the 70th spot, higher than its 87th mark last year; 166th in 2018; and top 201-250th bracket last 2017.
UP was also among the top 500 among 1,400 universities across 92 countries in the THE World University Rankings.
THE used the London's Financial Times Stock Exchange Quality and Markets criteria in classifying economies as "advanced emerging, secondary emerging, or frontier."
Institutions were assessed using the same THE World University Rankings indicators that measure performance in broad areas like teaching, research, citation, international outlook and industry income.
They recalibrated the assigned weights to "reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies."
