Authorities are now preparing areas near the Baywalk area of Roxas Boulevard in Manila ahead of dredging operations of Manila Bay scheduled this March.

The Department of Public Works and Highways said dredging will remove accumulated pollutants in the bay. A bathymetric survey will also be conducted to estimate the amount of material to be removed and specify the areas that must be given focus during the clean-up.

The DPWH has identified 3 dredging sites which include the Navotas River and Estero de Vitas in Tondo, Manila; and the priority 100 meters from the shoreline of Manila Bay spanning its approximately 1.5-kilometer portion from Manila Yacht Club breakwater to US Embassy.

The bay is currently undergoing massive rehabilitation as ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Experts earlier estimated that the cleanup will cost P47 billion. The project came after Boracay island underwent a 6-month rehabilitation that ended in October last year.
