DAVAO DEL NORTE—Special Assistant to the President (SAP)Christopher "Bong" Go may run for a seat in the Senate in 2019, after House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Saturday said he is willing to adhere to a condition set by the president's long-time assistant.
Go insisted on Friday he is not keen on throwing his hat into the midterm elections next year, unless Alvarez names him one of the principal sponsors in his wedding.
"Pero kung tutuparin ni Speaker Alvarez ang pangako niyang kunin akong ninong sa kasal niya, baka magbago po isip ko," Go told Palace reporters in a text message.
Alvarez said his wedding might happen sooner just to convince Go to run under the PDP-Laban slate.
"Talagang mapapasubo si SAP Bong Go. Talagang gusto ko siyang gawing ninong para makatakbo lang siya ng senador. Magpapakasal ako para sa kaniya," Alvarez said in a press conference in Davao del Norte.
Alvarez is in a relationship with a certain Jennifer Vicencio despite being married to Emelita Apostol Alvarez.
He has filed bills for legalization of civil unions, and the dissolution of marriages after he acknowledged that he has long been estranged from his legal wife.
