MANILA - Police in the Caraga region are offering sacks of rice as an incentive to residents who would surrender cocaine they may find in their communities.
Chief Supt. Gilbert Cruz, regional director of the Caraga Police, called on residents to report sightings of cocaine blocks to authorities. For every block of cocaine surrendered, a resident will get a sack of rice.
The campaign followed the recovery of blocks of cocaine in shores around the region, believed to be the tactic of drug syndicates to smuggle the drug with minimal detection.
Recently, multimillion-peso blocks of cocaine were found in Siargao and Dinagat islands.
