A grassfire hit the Mt. Kitanglad range along the boundaries of Manolo Fortich and Libona towns in Bukidnon on Wednesday afternoon.
In a drone video by Elpie Paras, volunteers can be seen putting out the fire using only saplings as firetrucks cannot penetrate the area.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Manolo Fortich, the fire may have been caused by "kaingin" or slash-and-burn farming.
"'Pag nahihirapan na silang patayin ang apoy saka pa sila tumatawag ng tulong, kaya lang malayo talaga ang area," said SFO4 Edgar Lawan, officer-in-charge of BFP-Manolo Fortich.
(When they find it difficult to put out the fire that's when they call for help, but the area is too far.)
Fire volunteers and the BFP put out the fire at 6 p.m., 3 hours after it was reported, preventing the blaze from burning more than 10,000 pine trees near the area.
A mini bulldozer was also used to help the team create a fire line to isolate the blaze.
Some 300 square meters of land was affected by the grassfire, according to an estimate by authorities.
