The Gabriela Women's Party on Tuesday expressed apprehensions on House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez's dissolution of marriage bill.

Speaking to ANC, Gabriela Rep. Emmi de Jesus said they are concerned with the use of "chronic unhappiness" as a ground for dissolution of marriage in Alvarez's bill.

"May pagka-subjective and one-way," she said.

"Within our ranks sa Gabriela Women's Party, apprehensive lang naman kami doon sa packaging ng dissolution of marriage bill ni Speaker," she added.

The bill, filed by Alvarez in 2017, provides that a marriage may be dissolved over irreconcilable differences or severe or chronic unhappiness.

It also cites the expensive annulment process which it hopes to remedy to allow a peaceful co-existence after the marriage.

A verified petition for dissolution of marriage may be filed with a joint plan for parenthood for common children.

Anyone who is found to have coerced a spouse to file a petition shall face jail time of as long as 5 years and a fine of up to P200,000.
