MANILA - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa on Wednesday received a medal of honor from the Indonesian National Police (INP), becoming among select recipients from the Asia-Pacific region.

The INP conferred on Dela Rosa the Bintang Bhayangkara Utama or Medal of Honor in a grand ceremony at the auditorium of the Indonesian Police Academy in Jakarta.

The Bintang Bhayangkara Utama is the highest medal for Indonesian policemen presented by the President of Indonesia.
In a video message sent to reporters, Dela Rosa thanked Indonesian President Joko Widodo and INP chief Tito Karnavia for the recognition.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo and the chief of the Indonesian National Police Muhammad Tito Karnavia for conferring [on] me the award of Bintang Bhayangkara Utama or the medal of honor, the highest award being given by the State, which means the ultimate defender of peace and the ultimate protector of the people," Dela Rosa said.

He said the award would inspire him to further pursue the fight against illegal drugs in the Philippines.

"Thank you for this award. This will inspire me more to exert more effort in our drug war. According to General Tito, he would like to thank General Bato for the rockstar-like inspiration to the INP and Indonesian people on how to fight drugs," the PNP chief said.

The PNP and INP, both pioneer members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Association of Chiefs of Police, have standing cooperation in joint maritime border patrols and efforts against terrorism, piracy, smuggling, transnational crime, narcotics, illegal drugs and trafficking in persons.
In the same ceremony, the INP also bestowed the Bintang Bhayangkara Utama award upon the minister for home affairs of Singapore, the commissioner of the Australian Federal Police, the commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force, the inspector general of the Royal Malaysia Police, the commissioner of the Singapore Police, and Singapore's director of internal security.
