Basyang slows down, to make landfall over Cebu or Negros

MANILA - Tropical Depression Basyang (international name: Sanba) 
has slowed down as it is forecast to make landfall in the Visayas Tuesday night, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 8 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said the tropical depression might make landfall in the southern tip of Cebu and/or in the southern section of Negros Oriental.

The weather bureau had earlier said Basyang may make landfall in Palawan on Wednesday.

Basyang packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph. It is forecast to move westward at a speed of 26 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 remains hoisted over the following areas:

-Palawan including the Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands
-Negros Occidental
-Negros Oriental
-Southern Leyte
-Misamis Oriental
-Misamis Occidental
-northern section of Zamboanga del Norte.

As of 7 p.m., the eye of the tropical depression was seen at 45 kms east, northeast of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Basyang is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday afternoon.
