CEBU- A heartbroken woman set her house on fire in Barangay Pulpogan in the town of Consolacion early Monday.
Noraiza Alonzo, 30, told Consolacion Fire investigator SFO1 Tyrone Gocela that she was sad and depressed as her live-in partner, an American national, had left her.
Alonzo allegedly first attempted to put her home on fire at around 3 am but neighbors were able to stop her.
Her second attempt was at 6 am. She gathered light materials inside her bathroom and created a fire, Gocela said.
Gocela said Alonzo left her LPG tank open, which aggravated the blaze.
Two other houses near Alonzo's were damaged.
Alonzo, who also admitted to using illegal drugs, will be charged with arson.
Under Republic Act no. 5467, arson is punishable by "reclusion temporal to reclusion perpetua: (a) If the offender shall set fire to any building, farmhouse, warehouse, hut, shelter, or vessel in port, knowing it to be occupied at the time by one or more persons."
