MANILA - More than half or 53 percent of Mindanao residents do not support participants in the Hong Kong street protests, results of the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed Wednesday.
The survey, conducted last Dec. 13 to 16, showed 1 out of 2 Filipinos has heard or has read something about the Hong Kong protests. Among the 52 percent of the aware Filipinos, opinions are split about supporting the demonstrators.
Support for the demonstrators is highest in the Visayas (43%), followed by Balance Luzon (33%), Metro Manila (28%) and Mindanao (27%), the survey showed.
SWS said the age group that showed the most support for the Hong Kong protests came from the 18-24 year olds (46%), followed by 55 years old and older (34%), 45-54 year olds (33%), the 35-44 year olds (30%), and the 25-34 year olds (28%).
Most of those who do not support the demonstrators came from the 55 years old and older age group (38%), while those undecided are from the age group of among the 25-34 year olds (38%).
The survey used face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide and has a +/-3 percent margin of error for national percentages.
The items on the Hong Kong street protests are non-commissioned. They are included in the organization’s own initiative and released as a public service, SWS said.
