MANILA - The local government of Cainta in Rizal on Monday offered a reward for anyone with vital information on the whereabouts of alias Ruben and alias Ekis, the suspects in the killing of deputy chief Senior Inspector Jimmy Senosin.
"We have raised P100,000 each for any tip on the whereabouts which can lead to the arrest of the 2 suspects," Mayor Kit Nieto told ABS-CBN News.
The mayor said they will extend monetary assistance to the family of Senosin.
He is also looking into the possibility of shouldering the education of the police officer's 4 children.
Senosin was killed following a gunfight with alleged drug suspects on Sunday night.
Cainta chief of police P/Supt Reynaldo Rosero said a concerned citizen alerted the Cainta police about two armed men near Floodway.
Senosin subsequently led police operatives to the area to verify the report.
However, upon arriving at the area, the suspects allegedly fired at the responding policemen resulting to the gunfight.
A grenade was even reportedly hurled at the law enforcers.
"Hinagis ang granada pero hindi ito sumabog. Nang hindi sumabog ilang minutes after, tinawag siya ng isa naming kasama pero hindi na siya nagrerespond. Yun pala, tinamaan sya sa ulo dahil sa mga pinaputok ng suspek," Rosero said.
"He was rushed to the nearest hospital but was later declared dead, mga 1:20 AM," he added.
The suspects, alias Ruben and alias Ekis, managed to escape, but authorities were able to arrest 2 other suspects.
"Nahuli natin yung dalawang suspek na kasama nina Ruben, na nagrerepack at nag-aayos ng droga," he said.
Rosero said the suspects belong to a group called "Highway Boys" who are engaged in illegal drugs, gun for hire and robbery snatching activities.
They are said to be notorious holduppers in the EDSA-Ortigas area.
