MANILA - The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines announced the death of two of its senior bishops.
Retired Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez of Marbel, South Cotabato passed away past 5 a.m. in General Santos City. He was 79.
“Please pray for the repose of his soul,” said Bishop Allan Casicas of the Diocese of Marbel.
Gutierrez, former head of the Church’s National Secretariat for Social Action (Nassa), served the diocese for 35 years.
Hours after Gutierrez' death, the Diocese of San Carlos announced the death of Bishop Nicolas Mondejar.
He was 94 and the country’s second oldest bishop.
“We humbly ask for prayers for his eternal repose,” said Bishop Gerardo Alminaza of the Diocese of San Carlos in Negros Occidental.
Mondejar passed away as the diocese marked the 31st anniversary of his installation as the first bishop of the Diocese of San Carlos.
