MANILA - The Chinese woman who threw a cup of taho (soy bean custard) at a police officer inside an MRT station on Saturday was arrested and is set to face charges as photos of her tantrum went viral on social media.

Jiale Zhang, 23, a fashion design student, will be charged with direct assault, disobedience to person in authority, and unjust vexation for throwing a cup of taho at PO1 William Cristobal of the Philippine National Police Regional Mobile Force Battalion's (PNP-RMBF) 4th Mobile Company.

The assault happened when Cristobal intervened as MRT security officers prevented Zhang from entering the platform area of the MRT Boni station because of her unconsumed beverage.

But Zhang "suddenly threw" her drink at Cristobal, prompting her arrest.

The Department of Transportation-Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (DOTr-MRT-3) management, in an initial statement,  said Zhang was released after apologizing to the police officer, but the Mandaluyong police said later Saturday that she was booked and detained for disobedience to agent or person in authority, direct assault, and unjust vexation.

The incident has drawn calls for the woman's deportation online, as netizens fumed at the disrespectful act against the officer.

Liquids are currently banned at train stations in Metro Manila as added security measure following twin blasts in Jolo, Sulu on Jan. 27. Unconsumed drinks have also long been barred at MRT stations.
