The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Saturday confirmed that dozens of pigs tested positive for African swine fever (ASF) in an auction market in Sulop town, Davao del Sur.
Agriculture Secretary William Dar said some 42 hogs from Koronadal City tested positive.
He said the pigs came from Davao Occidental, which has declared an ASF outbreak.
Dar said that based on tracing analysis, the outbreak might have been caused by swill feeding or food scraps contaminated with ASF.
The local government of Sulop has ordered to suspend operations at the auction market and disinfect the area. — Report from Claire Cornelio, ABS-CBN News
