MANILA- President Rodrigo Duterte paid his last respects to "healing priest" Fr. Fernando Suarez early Friday.
Duterte condoled with the family of Suarez when he visited the remains of the priest at Heritage Park in Taguig City.
Suarez was playing tennis at the Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday when he collapsed and died of a heart attack. He was survived by his mother and four siblings.
Duterte, during the visit, told the family of the late priest that he "personally witnessed" Fr. Suarez's "healing prowess" once in his hometown Davao City, Malacañang said in a statement.
The President was accompanied by his former aide, Sen. Christopher "Bong" Go, and Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea during the visit.
Suarez gained public attention for his supposed capability to cure people, attracting hundreds of believers desperate for cure in his healing masses.
The remains of the late priest will be brought to his hometown Taal in Batangas on Friday and will be interred on Feb. 15, Malacañang said.
